Update 8

This morning we came over to the hospital at 6:30 to spend some time with Thaddeus before surgery. When I asked the nurse how the blood test had come back, she mentioned that some of the numbers were high, indicating the possibility of an infection. She had not heard if they were going to postpone the surgery or not. Around 7:00 a nurse from surgery came up to take Thaddeus to surgery. We asked her if that meant that they were going to go ahead with the surgery then despite the high numbers. She did not know what we were referring to. After speaking to our nurse she called the surgery team. After a time, one of the doctors came to us to let us know that the group had decided to postpone the surgery until Thursday. We don't know that Thaddeus has an infection, but we don't know that he doesn't. They still are not sure why he stopped breathing, it may be unrelated, but it may indicate an infection. With so much uncertainty, they have decided to keep him on antibiotics for two days and try again for surgery on Thursday. So for now we will sit tight and keep riding the emotional roller coaster.

What a comfort to remember that the words of my favorite passage apply to Thaddeus as well.  "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. " Jeremiah 29:11.
