A Big Day for Thaddeus
It has been a long day for me, but an even longer one for Thaddeus. Thaddeus was having some trouble breathing today. Originally the doctors told Dede that the x-rays showed that Thaddus had a hole in his lungs. This put us into a panic and almost had me driving back to Milwaukee. As it turned out, the hole was either non existent or so small that it healed itself. The bigger issue was that there was air trapped in the lungs that could not escape so they had to put a chest tube in to vent the air. This did the trick, but it is uncomfortable for Thaddeus and causes him some discomfort. Despite this set back Thaddeus did manage to drink some breast milk from a bottle. Not nearly enough to sustain him, so some had to be fed to him with a feeding tube, but this is a great sign none the less. While we were down visiting him, the nurse was removing the line from his navel. This will allow him to feed more freely. Another side effect of this is that Dede got to hold him for the first time in a week! He still has some "attachments" but everything is stable enough that they are comfortable moving him around enough for him to be held. The kids and I plan to go back and visit on Friday and we can't wait to hold him again ourselves. Some people have asked how the other kids are doing. Well, when I told the kids it was time to leave Thaddeus Sebastian got a pouty look and said something to the effect of "But I love Thaddeus, and I don't want to leave him behind." I tried to explain that none of us want to leave him behind but it is what is best for him.
Quintin had a great time at Grandma and Grandpa's house, but I did get a number of great hugs out of him.
Charlie just can't wait to hold him some more, and Daryan and Jeremiah seem to understand that this is the way it has to be for now.
Oh yea, they weighed him again, now that he has lost much of his hardware, and he is up 4 oz. which is pretty amazing since he hasn't been on real food for most of his life!
I don't know how long they will keep the PIC line in or the chest tube. From what I understand we are on a lot of wait and see right now. We are still hoping to get him home in time for Easter.
